About the program
Tuition fee reduction of £10,000 for postgraduate students from Ghana.
One GREAT scholarship is available for a new full-time postgraduate student from Ghana, studying any taught Masters subject.
The scholarship is offered in partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign.
The GREAT Scholarships 2025 programme, launched by the British Council together with 71 UK universities, supports postgraduate students from Bangladesh, China, Egypt, France, Ghana, Greece, Kenya, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam in accessing world-class UK higher education opportunities.
The scholarship programme offers a tuition fee reduction of a minimum of £10,000 to students pursuing one-year postgraduate study in the UK. Students can apply for courses in a range of subjects, at 71 institutions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Am I eligible?
- A passport holder and a resident of Ghana
- Hold an offer to study any full-time Masters subject at Royal Holloway from September 2025
- Have completed an undergraduate degree and be motivated and interested in your proposed subject area
- Meet the English language requirement of Royal Holloway.
- Establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment.
- Willing to attend a networking event of all UK-based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK.
- Willing to maintain contact with the British Council and their HEI and act as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships, by sharing experiences of studying in the UK with future GREAT scholars.
- As an alumnus of the GREAT Scholarships, willing occasionally to speak to potential candidates about your experience of studying in the UK
Application Guideline
You must provide a supporting statement of no more than 400 words (please note that statements that exceed the word count will automatically be rejected), outlining why you should receive the scholarship. You should include:
- Academic achievements you are particularly proud of and why these really matter to you
- Why you have chosen to do the degree you have applied for
- What your future aspirations are and how the scholarship will help you to achieve your future goals
Your statement will be judged on how effectively and convincingly you respond to the above.
Applications which exceed the word count will automatically be rejected.
Terms and conditions
You may not hold any other Royal Holloway scholarship in addition to the GREAT Scholarship.
As a GREAT Scholar you must be:
- willing to attend a networking event of all UK-based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK.
- willing to maintain contact with the British Council and their HEI and act as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships, by sharing experiences of studying in the UK with future GREAT scholars.
- willing occasionally to speak to potential candidates about your experience of studying in the UK.
