About the program

EMMIR is a two-year Erasmus Mundus master’s programme that offers a unique, intercultural perspective on migration studies. Jointly run by institutions across Africa, Europe, and Asia, the programme enables students to study on three different continents, gaining a truly global understanding of migration issues.

Since its inception in 2011, EMMIR has operated under the prestigious Erasmus Mundus label, and it has been funded under Erasmus+ since 2016, making it one of the top programmes in migration studies.

Through EMMIR, students will rotate between partner universities, immersing themselves in various cultures while gaining a comprehensive grasp of migration in Europe, Africa, and Asia. The programme emphasizes theoretical, methodological, and practical skills, fostering critical thinking and intercultural awareness.

At EMMIR, students not only study migration but also experience it firsthand through mobility across continents, forging lifelong connections with peers from diverse backgrounds.

How can you apply for the EMMIR programme?

EMMIR is a competitive programme and we have thorough processes to select top candidates for our scholarship and self-funded placements. The application process is coordinated by UOL and supported by the EConsort application manager online. The final admission decision is taken by the selection committee consisting of members of all nine partner institutions.

To be an eligible candidate for the EMMIR programme, you should have:

  • a last degree from no more than 5 years ago (or be able to convincingly justify why you are returning to your studies), and
