About this Program

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is seeking applications for its Young Trade Leaders Program, aiming to increase young people's understanding of the WTO's work and international trade. These individuals will contribute fresh perspectives on trade's benefits to people and the planet, while also learning about the organization's mission and the work of Young Trade Leaders worldwide.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 on the closing date for applications with a strong interest in international trade.
  • Applicants must be a citizen of a WTO member.
  • Applicants must be neither currently affiliated with the WTO, nor have a relative who is currently WTO-affiliated.
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate a good level of written and spoken English - knowledge of a second WTO working language (French or Spanish) is an asset.
  • Applicants must have attuned to the need for diplomacy and show a willingness to respect diverse perspectives as well as willing to foster understanding of trade issues and promote constructive dialogue.
  • Applicants must be committed to participate fully throughout the one-year program (July 2024-June 2025).

Benefits

For selected individuals:

  • Candidates will gain a greater understanding of the workings of the WTO and international trade publish articles, blogs, podcasts and social media content on trade-related topics.
  • Candidates will be able to attend an in-person one-day training program at the WTO in Geneva to contribute to and/or coordinate a session at the Public Forum 2024.
  • Candidates will benefit from existing WTO training programs.
  • Candidates will benefit from WTO Secretariat advice and mentoring.
  • Candidates will receive support when organizing WTO-related activities in their home countries.

Program Duration

This program duration is for one whole year, where the forum day session is a 1-day event in Geneva hosted by WTO (World Trade Organization).

Required Documents

  • Updated CV of 2 pages only.
  • Briefly introduce yourself, tell your interest in the program, and the impact you think to have as a Young Trade Leader in a video of 2-3 minutes.
  • Answer the question “What does trade mean for you?” in not more than 300 words.
  • Applications after the deadline will not be accepted.
  • Valid passport to travel to Geneva.

How to Apply

  • Applicants need to register by submitting all required documents via email: (YTL@wto.org)
  • Applicants must follow its instructions to finish all the required application procedures.
  • Applicants must submit the application in the system as requested within the application period.
