About this Program

YSEALI Academy is an interdisciplinary department at Fulbright University Vietnam that was established in 2020 by U.S. Department of State’s Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) in collaboration with Fulbright University Vietnam. We seek to build the leadership capabilities of youth in the region, strengthen ties between the United States and Southeast Asia, and nurture an ASEAN community by bringing together the most hopeful talents from ASEAN & Timor Leste in the spirit of growth, inclusivity and friendship.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be aged 25-35 years and can be male or female (no previous YSEALI experience required) or between the ages of 36-40 (YSEALI alumni status required).
  • Applicants must be citizen of and currently residing in one of the following countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, or Vietnam.
  • YSEALI Alumni Status: If you have participated fully in the YSEALI Academic Fellowship, YSEALI Professional fellowships, Regional Workshops, YSEALI Seeds for the Future Grants Competition.
  • Be fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Applicants possess a passport that is valid for at least six months after your intended return date from Vietnam in April 2024 when the Entrepreneurship seminar ends.
  • Hold at least a bachelor's degree.

  • The YSEALI Academy is an interdisciplinary department that conducts innovative research on a diverse range of topics with the ultimate aim of empowering Southeast Asian Youth.
  • Promote understanding and improvement of entrepreneurship & management, AI, diplomacy and health in the Southeast Asian region. 
  • Our research teams are highly diverse, ranging from senior researchers to undergrad students in the arts & sciences. We are always open for potential interesting and fun research collaborations.
  • It encompasses challenges such as limited access to capital, gender biases in investment decisions, and exclusion from critical networks and mentorship opportunities.
  • Societal norms and stereotypes further constrain women's entrepreneurial aspirations, perpetuating a cycle of inequality. 
  • Overcoming this barrier demands concerted efforts to address systemic biases, foster inclusive ecosystems, and provide support mechanisms tailored to women entrepreneurs.
  • participants learn skills to strategize for securing funding, explore case studies of successful funding campaigns led by women entrepreneurs, and participate in practical exercises to develop funding pitches tailored to their ventures.
  • Networking events will allow participants to connect with mentors, peers, and industry leaders, fostering meaningful relationships and collaborations.
  • Fellows will attend keynote presentations, panel discussions, and roundtable sessions to explore the root causes and impacts of systemic biases in entrepreneurship.
  • Conference participants will engage in storytelling sessions, panel discussions, and mentoring circles featuring successful women entrepreneurs sharing their journeys, challenges, and lessons learned. They will hear inspiring stories of resilience, perseverance, and success, gaining valuable insights and inspiration for their entrepreneurial endeavors. 
  • Interactive workshops will empower participants to identify and leverage their unique strengths and experiences to become role models and mentors for other women entrepreneurs.

Program Duration

The seminar will be held in both virtual and in-person settings with the following timeline: 

  • Application launch: June 24 - July 14, 2024
  • Announcement of Result: August 2024
  • Online sessions: September 3 & 5, 2024
  • In-person seminar in Ho Chi Minh: September 9-13, 2024

How to Apply

  • Applicants need to register in the application form: (fulbright.edu.vn)
  • Applicants must follow its instructions to finish all the required application procedures.
  • Applicants must submit the application in the system as requested within the application period.

Application Deadline

Apply before July 14, 2024. 

All applications submitted after July 14, 2024, will not be accepted.

  • The seminar will be in a hybrid format and will require a full-time commitment between September 3 & 5 (online) and September 9-13, 2024 (in-person).
  • This program is fully funded by the U.S. Department of State.
