What is MEXT Scholarship?

MEXT Scholarship is the largest scholarship for studying in Japan provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT). MEXT currently offers 4 types of scholarships for Research Students, Undergraduate students, College of Technology students, and Specialized Training College students.

Categories of MEXT Scholarship:

  • Research Students (1.5 – 2 years)
  • Undergraduate Students (5years)
  • College of Technology Students (4 years)
  • Specialized Training College Students (3years)

 

What are the benefits provided?

  • Full Scholarship

 

What are eligibilities?

The scholarship programs are open to excellent students (national and international) wishing to pursue their Master’s degree at ETH Zurich. The prerequisite is a very good result in their Bachelor (top 10% of Bachelor’s program = grade A).

For Research Students

  • Academic Background: 16 years of formal education
  • Age: Born on or after April 2, 1985
  • Transcript: 7 grades or higher out of 10 grades of cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) (average from foundation year to final year0 in the last university attended

For Undergraduate Students

  • Academic Background: 12 years of formal education
  • Age: Born between April 2, 1995 and April, 2003

For College of Technology Students

  • Academic Background: 12 years of formal education
  • Age: Born between April 2, 1995 and April 1, 2003

For Specialized Training College Students

  • Academic Background: 12 years of formal education
  • Age: Born between April 2, 1995 and April 1, 2003

 

What are the required documents?

For Research Students

  • Application form for Research Students (prescribed form) 
  • Transcript for each academic year of the last university attended
  • The transcript should show the grades earned by the applicant in all the subject studies for each year and the grade scale applied
  • Field of study and research plan (Research Proposal)
  • [Only for the candidates who have already graduated from universities] Graduation certificate or degree certificate of the last university attended.

For Undergraduate Students

  • Application form (prescribed form): the application form is different in accordance with the categories in Undergraduate Students
  • Agreement of guardian (prescribed form)
  • [Only for those who have already graduated from high schools including university students] Certificate of the result of the National examinations for grade 12
  • [Only for university students] Certificate of enrollment of the university
  • [Only for high school students] Certificate of transcript in the years of grade 10, 11 and Semester 1 of 12 (prescribed form)

For College of Technology Students

  • Application form (prescribed form): the application for mis different in accordance with the categories in College of Technology Students. Candidates are required to submit the appropriate form for the category which you wish to major in Japan
  • Agreement of guardian (prescribed form)
  • [Only for those who have already graduated from high schools including university students] Certificate of the result of the national examinations for grade 12
  • [Only for university students] Certificate of enrollment of the university
  • {only for high school students] Certificate of transcript in the years of grade 10, 11 and Semester 1 of 12 (prescribed form)

For Specialized Training College Students

  • Application form (prescribed form)
  • Agreement of guardian (prescribed form)
  • [Only for those who have already graduated from high schools including university students] Certificate of the result of the National examinations for grade 12
  • [only for university students] Certificate of enrollment of the university
  • [Only for high school students] Certificate of transcript in the years of grade 10, 11 and Semester 1 of 12 (prescribed form)

 

How to Apply?

  • Decide the category which you wish to apply. You are allowed to apply for only one category. It is not allowed to apply for more than two categories.
  • You are required to submit two types of application forms, one is for the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, another is for the ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. The application forms are available at the Scholarship Office, Department of Cultural Relations and Scholarship, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, located at #23, St. 360, Sangkat Boeung Keng Kang 1, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh (Approximately 50m from the east side of APSARA TV). You can download the application forms for the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia. Application forms for the Embassy are different in accordance with the category.
  • Fill in the application form for th category you choose and prepare all the necessary documents. Necessary documents for application are different in accordance with categories and your present status (ex. University students or high school students).
  • After completing to fill in your application form and preparing all the necessary documents, submit them, to the Scholarship Office between 2 May and 29 May, at 16:00.
