About program 

The University of Electro-Communications (UEC Tokyo) is thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the prestigious Japanese government MEXT Scholarship for the Spring 2025 intake. This scholarship provides a unique opportunity for international students to pursue their Master's or Doctoral degrees in two exceptional programs:

  • Leadership Development Program for Self-Evolving Smart Societies (SESS): This program is designed to cultivate future leaders who will tackle critical social issues and drive positive change in their home countries. With a focus on carbon neutrality, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and economic security, SESS equips students with the knowledge and skills to spearhead meaningful social transformations.
  • Human Resource Development Program Facilitating the Resolution of Global Energy Challenges (GECHA): GECHA aims to empower experts to address global energy challenges through cutting-edge, international  education. Leveraging the power of AI and quantum science, this program fosters a network of international minds dedicated to solving energy-related issues, particularly in developing countries.

MEXT scholarship recipients will enjoy a comprehensive support package that includes:

  • Generous Monthly Stipend:
  1. Master's Students: 144,000 JPY per month (for 2 years)
  2. Doctoral Students: 145,000 JPY per month (for 3 years)
  • Additional regional allowances may apply depending on your location.
  • Full Tuition and Admission Fee Coverage: No need to worry about tuition or admissions fees!
  • Travel Assistance: The scholarship covers the cost of an economy-class air ticket from your nearest international airport to Tokyo, Japan.

Eligible Nationalities

This scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this exciting opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1990 (exceptions may apply for extenuating circumstances).
  • Nationality: Priority is given to students from designated "Focus Countries." However, a limited number of applicants from other nationalities may also be considered.
  • Health: Good physical and mental health are essential for pursuing your studies.
  • Academic Excellence: A minimum GPA of 2.30 on a 3.00 scale (based on the JASSO evaluation scale) is required.
  • Language Proficiency: Applicants must demonstrate strong language skills in both Japanese and English:Japanese: N2 level on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or equivalent proficiency.
  • English: B2 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or equivalent scores on recognized English proficiency tests.
  •   Follow its instructions to finish all the required application procedures. 
  •  Applicants must apply the system as requested within the application period.
