About this Program

The Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Ireland is a national program funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Science and managed by the Irish Research Council. The Irish Council supports outstanding research in all fields and invests in discovery research and innovative concepts addressing significant social issues. Research Ireland, a new national research organization, combines the work of Science Foundation Ireland and the Irish Research Council. The Irish Research Council (IRC) creates a healthy research environment for international students, offering opportunities and incentives to benefit both Ireland and its participants. The IRC works in partnership with businesses, civil society organizations, and governmental bodies to use researchers' expertise and skills.

The purpose of this Ireland fellowship is to provide financial assistance to qualifying candidates for one or two years pursuing a postdoctoral fellowship in Ireland at an Irish higher education institution. The program offers funding in all fields, including zoology and archaeology, and awards for bottom-up, non-directed research. The fellowship also features an objective selection process using international, independent expert peer review and individual, prestigious awards for excellent research.

Excellent submissions addressing new and developing areas of study or creative, innovative approaches are highly appreciated. Interdisciplinary proposals are also welcome, as combining knowledge, methods, resources, and ideas from two or more fields leads to the advancement of basic understanding. A salary of €46,305 in the first year and €47,879 in the second year can cover living expenses.
