About Donghua University
Donghua University is a public university in Shanghai, China. It is affiliated with the Ministry of Education. The university is part of the Double First-Class Construction and Project 211. Founded in June 1951, Donghua University was originally named the East China Institute of Textile Technology in September 1985, the institute changed its name to China Textile University and changed it once again to Donghua University in August 1999. The word "Donghua" literally means East China. It has been a national key university since 1960 and was one of the educational institutions in China authorized to confer all three levels of degree: bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees. Donghua University is ranked #509 in Best Global Universities. Schools are ranked according to their performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence.

DHU is a multi-disciplinary university with a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs across a vast field of disciplines including engineering, economics, management, literature and art, laws, science, and education. It has 13 colleges and schools, offering 54 undergraduate programs, 59 master’s degree programs, 30 doctoral degree programs, and 5 postdoctoral research programs, among which are 6 state key disciplines and 7 Shanghai municipal key disciplines. There are more than 2,800 faculty and staff, and over 30,000 enrolled students at DHU. The employment rate maintains 100% for post graduates and over 95% for undergraduates in the past several years. So far, DHU has established cooperation with over 100 well-known oversea universities, research institutions and enterprise. DHU also successfully held international conferences and forums in the fields such as textile, fashion, and material.
As early as 1954, DHU commenced to accept international students who were among the first group of overseas students enrolled by Chinese universities. To date, DHU has brought up a huge number of international students from over 130 countries. Almost all of undergraduate programs, postgraduate and research programs are open to international students. Besides, non-degree programs including Chinese language programs, Degree-Preparation program, advanced study programs, and a variety of short-term programs are available to international students.
Campus
Located in Shanghai, Donghua University is composed of the Yan’an Road Campus at the downtown area and the Songjiang Campus at the historical cradle of the city. The history of Donghua University can be traced back to the establishment of Nantong College in 1912 by Zhang Jian, a famous industrialist in Qing dynasty. In 1951, East China Institute of Textile Science & Technology was founded; in 1985, the name was changed to China Textile University; in 1999, it was changed again to Donghua University. Donghua University was approved as the state-key university in 1960 and it is one of 75 universities that directly under the Ministry of Education of China. Donghua University has 5 post-doctoral research centers, 28 doctoral degree programs, 60 master’s degree programs and 56 undergraduate programs. There are over 2700 faculty members and nearly 30,000 enrolled students.
The leading disciplines of Donghua University are Textile, Fashion, Materials and Trade, etc. Textile Science & Engineering, the state-key discipline, ranks No. 1 in the Assessment of First-level Discipline announced by China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC). The total number of its research theses abstracted in SCI, EI and ISTP was more than the total amount of the other nine famous textile institutions worldwide for two successive years. Besides, many research achievements have found applications in the fields of aviation and aerospace, military, construction, environmental protection, new materials, etc., special contributions have been made to China’s Manned Space Projects such as Shenzhou V, Shenzhou VI and Shenzhou VII.
