Bonn International Fellowships in Germany 2025

About this Program

Outstanding researchers from all fields are invited to spend up to 12 days at the University of Bonn as part of the University Bonn Fellowships 2025 program. Scholars from strategic partner institutions and universities in priority countries are given preference for international engagement under this program. Engaging the fellows in the academic community of Bonn and making them visible to the public is the primary goal of this fellowship. Furthermore, the program aims to provide avenues for potential future partnerships between fellows and other investigators.

Eligibility

Post-doctoral scholars and experienced faculty who research and/ or teach abroad at a university or research institute and who have a strong international reputation in their field of research.
Researchers need to be invited by a host from the University of Bonn.
Applications can only be submitted by members of the University.
Researchers functioning as hosts at the University of Bonn who have completed a doctorate. The fellow declares their agreement to the nomination in an informal letter.

Selection Criteria

Scientific reputation of the fellows in their areas of specialization
The fellows’ contribution to academic life in Bonn (e.g. through public lectures, seminars or colloquiums)
The expected longer-term impact of the stay and a plan to further develop the collaboration between the fellow and host institute in Bonn

Benefits

For selected students:

A travel allowance (depending on country of origin)
An allowance of €160 per day (up to 12 days including day of arrival and departure)
Material expenses for events (up to €500 per proposal)
Fellows will have the chance to conduct research at one of the top universities in Germany.
The fellowship program offers a range of learning opportunities.
The fellowship program will also provide ample opportunities for fellows to network with other researchers, professionals, and experts in their fields.
This program will offer a platform for fellows to advance their professional development by gaining exposure to new ideas, approaches, and methodologies.

Program Duration

The program can last for a maximum of 12 days at the University of Bonn.

Project description (PDF of no more than 6 pages plus fellow’s declaration of consent), consisting of:
1. Planned time period for the fellow’s visit (month)
2. Reasons for inviting the fellow, in particular an account of their key research accomplishments and international reputation
3. If applicable: an overview of the existing collaboration between the applicant and the fellow
4. A plan of how the fellow will be integrated into Bonn’s academic life during his or her stay
5. A description of the envisaged short- or long-term outcome of the stay; if applicable, a plan or list of goals for further collaboration
6. The fellow’s informal declaration of consent to the application
