About the program 

Auckland University of technology (AUT)provide scholarships to recognize and support high achieving international student as they being their journey in becoming great graduates of AUT.

Number on offer

• 23 undergraduate scholarships.

• 55 postgraduate scholarships.

• 4 Dean’s Merit scholarships – Africa. (2 for bachelor's degree, 2 for master's degree)

Eligility Criteria 

• Applicants must be new full fee-paying international students.  Applicants must be citizens of one of the following countries:

o Southeast Asia: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam.

o South Asia: Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives.

o North Asia: China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Mongolia, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and Republic of Korea.

o Europe: All countries.

o Dean’s Merit Africa: Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa.

• Applicants must have a current and valid conditional or unconditional offer to study an eligible AUT program in the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies starting in Semester 1, 2025. 

• Applicants cannot be earlier AUT students. This includes those who are applying for a higher-level program (e.g., an AUT bachelor’s degree graduate applying for a master’s program).

• Students who have already begun studies at AUT are not eligible to apply.

Application Requirements 

Applicants must complete the AUT International Scholarship application online through the scholarships database on the AUT website: www.aut.ac.nz/scholarships.Applicants are needed to upload:

• A current and valid conditional or unconditional offer to study an eligible AUT program commencing in Semester 1, 2025.

• Detailed academic transcript for the most recent qualification, complete with grading scale.

• Completion certificate (e.g., bachelor’s degree certificate).

• Their AUT student ID in the box provided on the application form.

All documentation must be uploaded by the closing date otherwise the application will be considered ineligible.

Applicants must declare if they have applied for other scholarships both internally (i.e. awarded by AUT) and externally (e.g., government scholarships). The selection committee will take this into consideration.

Selection Process  

• A selection committee including of representatives from AUT International and/or Faculty will assess the applications.

• Applications will be shortlisted and awarded by AUT on the recommendation of the selection committee.

• The country of origin of the applicant may be considered by the selection committee to align with AUT’s strategic aims.

• Student’s academic achievement will be taken into consideration.

• Choice will take place monthly until places are filled.

Conditions of Acceptance and Appointment 

• The award of this scholarship is conditional on the student enrolling in an eligible AUT Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies program beginning in Semester 1, 2025.

• Recipients are required to be enrolled full time (120 points) at AUT during the tenure of the scholarship. Failure to do so may result in termination of the scholarship and any paid funds recovered.

• The contribution to tuition fees will be paid directly to the student’s AUT fees account upon successful completion (pass all papers) of the first semester of study.

• The scholarship may be terminated if recipients are found to have not truthfully declared them details during the application process. In this case, any paid funds will be recovered.

• Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic standing and conduct during the tenure of the scholarship. Failure to do so may result in termination of the scholarship and any paid funds recovered.

• Except in cases where there are compelling medical reasons or adverse personal circumstance beyond a student’s control, the uptake of the scholarship cannot be deferred.

• The offer of scholarship lapses if it is not formally accepted within two weeks from the date of offer.

• By accepting the award, scholarship recipients agree to appropriate publicity requests from AUT to represent the university and the scholarship.

• The scholarship cannot be held concurrently with other AUT International Scholarships.

• This scholarship cannot be held by students whose studies are being fully sponsored by either a home government or the NZ government.

• Recipients have 14 days to accept their scholarship offer of place.

• Recipients with a valid conditional offer to study an eligible AUT programmed must make a reasonable effort to meet the English language condition (if any) of their conditional offer

within one month of accepting the scholarship offer.

Additional Notes

• Eligible programs are bachelor’s degree level or above (excluding doctoral) and 120 points or more in duration. Refer to the appendix for list of eligible programmes.

• International students are not citizens, permanent residents nor resident visa holders of New Zealand or Australia.

• The scholarship will be paid as a compulsory fees credit towards the first year of study at AUT on successful completion of the first semester of study.

• AUT is not obliged to make an award if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.

• The regulations are periodically reviewed by the University Scholarships Committee and are subject to change.

Benefits

For Selected Students:

  • Undergraduate scholarships 

Contribution to tuition fees of $5000 pain on the first year of study 

Tenure: one year only 

Refer to the appendix for eligible undergraduate programs. 

  • Postgraduate scholarships 

Contribution tuition fees of $7000 paid in the first year of study 

Tenure: one year only 

Refer to the appendix for eligible postgraduate programs Doctoral programs are excluded Dean’s Merit Scholarships – Africa

• Master’s degree

o Contribution to tuition fees of $11,000 paid in the first year of study.

o Tenure: One year only

• Bachelor's degree

o Contribution to tuition fees for three years: $7,000 in first year, $5,000 in second year, $3,000 in third year (Total value: $15,000)

o Tenure: Three years

• Refer to the Appendix for eligible programs.

• Doctoral programs are excluded.
