Lots of Cambodian students have awarded a scholarship to pursue their study abroad whether for high school, bachelor, or master's degree. Some of them have gone to China, Thailand, Japan, Australia, and other countries in Europe. There are also students who are working very hard to get a scholarship to study in the U.S. Here is brief guiding information for students who want to study in the U.S. as a scholarship awardee.

Types of scholarships

There are many scholarships provided by educational institutions, international organizations, and even the United States government to fund high achieving students to pursue their study in the U.S. Those scholarships consist of short-term and degree scholarships. For instance, SEAYLP and Global UGRAD are the exchange program scholarships while the Fulbright scholarships are the most popular U.S. government-funded scholarships for students to pursue their master’s degree or doctorate degree. 

Criteria for scholarship

There are some scholarship programs available for Cambodian students and its main prerequisite is being a Cambodian citizen. However, there are basic requirements and criteria for students to get those scholarships to need to fulfill such as English proficiency, strong academic background, and leadership skills. Besides these basic criteria, scholarship applicants may need to fulfill specific requirements provided for the specific scholarship program.

Advantages provided by each scholarship

There are certain benefits provided to scholarship awardee depend on the scholarship type. Some types of scholarship provide awardees the opportunity to stay and study in the U.S. for a certain period of time, ranging from weeks to years. Moreover, awardees are provided with a stipulated amount of money to support their living in the U.S. For those prominent scholarships, airfare and installation allowance will also be provided.
